Man resting and recouping after a long week
By Dr. Bussell - April 25, 2017

Is it just me or have you noticed life seems to be flying by? Every day goes just a little faster as we try to keep up with work, school, and any other event that has us on the go. Even doctor appointments can become a daily chore for those of us living with chronic nerve pain.

But just because everyone else is operating at the speed of fast and faster doesn’t mean we have to. The beauty is we have the time to rest. Though, we need to make it our priority.

Remember Sabbath? This is the time God asks us to slow down. He did not intend for us to function seven days a week. That’s why we need to reward ourselves with the greatest pleasure of them all — to stop and smell the roses!

Get Your Rest

It’s as simple as that! Our bodies need the time to heal and recoup after a long week of work, school or suffering with nerve pain. The word Sabbath means to rest or stop. So, instead of worrying about the next project or week for that matter all you have to do is crawl into bed, close your eyes and dream about your favorite place to be.

Strengthen Your Faith

The Sabbath is your time to reflect, pray and spend quality time with our Creator. He invites us with open arms to come to him during our times of need to seek help and guidance. The more time we spend with him, the more we will experience peace and balance to our busy lives.

Enjoy a Meal with Friends

There’s nothing like the company of good friends to put a smile on our faces. Their positivity and encouragement is always welcomed. Spend the time catching up over a delicious meal. Whatever you choose, your friends will be there!

Make Family Time

We’re often so busy during the week with work, chores and after-school events that we often miss the deep connections with our loved ones. Spend the day with the family at the park or a museum. Make it a point to learn more about them, their interests and what’s on their mind. We could all use the extra family support.

Read a Good Book

It’s the simple pleasures in life that can make a world of difference to our overall well-being. If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the week, escape with a good book. You might just get lost and forget the nerve pain is even there. Don’t forget the blanket and tea!

Remember to always teat your mind, body and soul to a much-deserved relaxation. Life is too short to be consumed with all the headaches and daily routines that bog us down. Let’s make it a priority to give ourselves the chance to refresh on Sabbath, for this is what God wants.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exodus 20:8-10
